Federal Student Loan Types

Aspire Resources Inc. provides customer service for two main groups of federal student loans.
Direct Loans

Loans under the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program (Direct Loan) are provided to students and schools directly from the U.S. Department of Education. Types of Direct Loans are:

    Direct Subsidized Loans
    Direct Unsubsidized Loans
    Direct PLUS Loans for parents

In 2010, as a result of federal legislation, all federal student loans are provided through Direct Loan. Aspire is one of a limited number of organizations contracted to service Direct Loans on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education.
FFEL Loans

Until 2010, independent organizations provided and serviced Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program loans, which included:

    Federal Stafford Loans
        Subsidized Federal Stafford Loans
        Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans
    Federal PLUS Loans for parents
Federal PLUS Loans for graduate and professional-degree students

Borrower Responsibilities

No matter what type of federal student loan you have, you have certain responsibilities as a borrower.

Borrow only what you need. Limiting your loan amounts will make your student loan commitment more manageable when you're preparing for other purchases like a new car or house.
Understand your loan agreements. Read your Master Promissory Note (MPN) to make sure you understand your loan terms and payment requirements.
Make timely payments. Submit each payment according to your repayment schedule (or before), even if you:
        Do not graduate.
Are planning to enroll in school again.
Are in the process of applying for a deferment or forbearance.
        Aren't happy with your education.
Contact Aspire Resources Inc. promptly if you are having difficulty making your payments. Friendly loan counselors are available to help you find assistance that meets your needs.
Let Aspire know if anything changes.
Update your address, telephone number(s) and email address by logging in to your account.
If you are delaying payments through forbearance or deferment and your situation or loan status changes, contact Aspire.

Comaker Responsibilities

A comaker has combined loans with another person and shares responsibility for the loan. Both borrowers should:

Understand loan agreements. Read the Master Promissory Note (MPN) to make sure you understand loan terms and payment requirements.
Ensure payments are made on time. Submit each payment according to the repayment schedule (or before), even if one of you:
        Does not graduate.
Takes longer than expected to finish his or her education.
Isn't happy with the education or training received.
Contact Aspire Resources Inc. promptly if either of you has difficulty making payments. Friendly loan counselors are available to help you find assistance that meets your needs.
Let Aspire know if anything changes.
Update your address, telephone number(s) and email address by logging in to your account.
Call Aspire to update the borrower's contact information.
If you are delaying payments through forbearance or deferment and your or the borrower's situation changes, contact Aspire.

If...
- You miss payments or send them late
